Debut performance of CBS Westland Row school anthem
May 5, 2017
Last night was one of the standout moments of my career so far. And I got up still buzzing about it.
I don't think I dress up the music life too much. Yes, of course its great to be pursuing something that I'm passionate about. But it's tough, stressful, insane hours, and there are sleepless nights wondering how the hell it's all gonna pan out. Perhaps sometime I should detail what happens in an average week, for those who think musicians just get up late and sit around all day strumming a guitar, in between a few drags on a reefer.
But a day like this makes it all worthwhile and gives me energy to keep plugging. There are promising things happening in general, but this evening was just incredible. Watching a choir sing a song I wrote and the reception they got was like an out-of-body experience. That it was a school from inner-city Dublin with kids that generally come from what people might call disadvantaged backgrounds, made this whole experienced quite breathtaking. They were thrown into this a couple of months ago and they rocked it tonight. I had serious shivers.
Thanks to my buddy Conor for getting me involved originally. And thank you to Kate and Eddie at the school and the fantastic work of David Callaghan, our choir maestro.
This project has been a joy from the moment I met the kids to discuss the song, to today, seeing it come fruition. These moments are rare so I'll enjoy it.
Last but not least, thanks to Cathal Kenna for getting video footage on the day, which along with audio recordings, we will be releasing soon for those interested.
